30 Jahre sind eine lange Zeit. Und wenn eine Band nach so langer Zeit beschließt, mal wieder Musik zu machen, ist erstens meist nur noch ein Gründungsmitglied dabei und zweitens das aufgenommen Album in der Regel viel schwächer als der Vorgänger. Ob das bei den bereits 1973 gegründeten Sea Goat auch der Fall ist, kann ich leider nicht beurteilen, da ich weder Angaben zu Gründungsmitgliedern der Band noch früheren Alben gefunden habe.

Komponiert wurden große Teile des Albums im ungarischen Städtchen Tata, daher wohl auch der Albumtitel. Musikalisch wird tiefenentspannter Rock dargeboten. Als Referenzen wurden vom Label King Crimson, Genesis oder Gentle Giant genannt, die ich hier aber nicht wirklich raushören kann. Der Prog-Anteil ist eher gering und stattdessen lädt die Musik zum Träumen und Entspannen ein. Hin und wieder wird auch mal ein kleines, melodisches Solo gespielt. Mit den bekannten Frickel-Soli, die sonst im Prog üblich sind hat das aber nichts zu tun. Hier stehen eindeutig die Melodien und der melancholische Gesang im Vordergrund.

Bemerkenswert ist, dass sich die Platte sowohl zum nebenbei als auch zum intensiven Hören eignet. Die Songs sind so gestrickt, dass man nicht überfordert wird aber dennoch einige Feinheiten entdecken kann. Vermutlich ist genau dies der progressive Ansatz der Band und macht das (mutmaßliche) Debut der Deutschen um Massacre Records-Gründer Torsten Hartmann so interessant.

30 years is a long time. And if a band decides to make music again after such a long time, first of all only one founding member is present, and secondly the recorded album is generally much weaker than the predecessor. I can not judge whether this is the case with Sea Goat, which was founded in 1973, because I have not found any information on founders of the band or previous albums.

Composed were large parts of the album in the Hungarian town of Tata, therefore probably also the album title. Musically, deeply relaxed rock music is presented. As references were called from the label King Crimson, Genesis or Gentle Giant, which I can however not really pick out. The Prog portion is rather low and instead the music invites to dream and relax. Every now and then a small, melodic solo is played. With the well-known tinkering-soli, which are usual in prog this has nothing to do. The melodies and melancholic singing are clearly the focus here.

It is noteworthy that the record is suitable both for incidental and intensive listening. The songs are so knitted that you can not be overwhelmed, but still can discover some subtleties. Probably this is the progressive approach of the band and makes the (presumed) debut of the Germans around Massacre Records founder Torsten Hartmann so interesting.
