Es ist Freitagabend in Hamburg. Und die Schlange vor der Großen Freiheit 36 wird immer länger. Tarja Turunen, die ehemalige Frontfrau von Nightwish hat gerufen und die Fans kamen in Scharen. Und während wir vor dem Eingang warteten, unternahm das Ehepaar Krull (Leaves’ Eyes) einen kurzen Spaziergang über den Kiez. Viertel vor sieben öffneten sich die Türen und die Fans stürmten den Club.

It’s Friday evening in Hamburg. And the line in front of the Große Freiheit 36 is elongating. Tarja Turunen, formerly frontwoman of Nightwish, has called and the fans gathered in great numbers. The married couple Krull (Leaves’ Eyes) went for a walk on the Kiez while we were waiting at the entrance. At quarter to seven the doors opened and the fans streamed into the club.

Bereits eine viertel Stunde nach dem Einlass, stand bereits die erste Band auf der Bühne, Markize aus Frankreich und Russland. Mit tollen Gothic Metal werden die Fans angeheizt. Gute Riffs, dazu die bezaubernde Stimme von Sängerin Alina (in bezaubernden Bühnen-Outfit).

The first band entered the stage only 15 minutes after entering. Markize from France and Russia. The fans got fired up with great Gothic Metal. Fantastic riffs and the enchanting voice of songstress Alina (in a* charming stage outfit).

Nach kurzer Umbaupause erklang das Intro für den Auftritt von Leaves’ Eyes. Nach und nach betraten die Musiker die Bühne. Liv Kristine wurde mit den tosendem Beifall von den rund 1000 Fans begrüßt. Trotz Bänderriss und Tour-Verbot stand sie auf der Bühne und bezauberte mit ihrer engelsgleichen Stimme alle Anwesenden. Gothic Metal, wie man ihn sich wünscht, Kontrast aus klarem hohen Gesang und den Growls von Ehemann Alex Krull, dazu harte Gitarrenriffs. Gespielt wurden im wesentlichen Titel aus dem aktuellen Album “Meredead”. Einer der Höhepunkte aus meiner Sicht war war das Mike-Oldfield-Cover “To France”.

After a short break for re-arrangements the intro of the Leaves’ Eyes’ gig sounded. Gradually the band members entered the stage. Liv Kristine was welcomed by the circa 1.000 Fans. Even though she had a ligament rapture and was prohibited touring, she had appeared on the scene to fascinate the audience with her angelic voice. Gothic Metal as you could only wish for, the contrast of clear high vocals and the growls of husband Alex Krull, accompanied by hard guitar riffs. The band mainly performed songs from their current album “Meredead”. The Mike Oldfield cover version „To France“ was one of my highlights.

Erneut eine kurze Umbaupause. Vor der Bühne hängt ein durchsichtiger Vorhang. Das Intro für den Höhepunkt des Abends erklingt aus den Lautsprecher-Boxen. Als Tarja auf die Bühne kam, gab es für die Fans kein Halten mehr. Mit Ihrer hellen klaren Stimme zog sie alle in ihren Bann. Sie stellte hauptsächlich die Songs ihres aktuellen Albums “What Lies Beneath” vor. Es gab aber auch Titel von “My Winter Storm”. Auch eine Reminiszenz an ihre früheren Nightwish-Zeiten durfte nicht fehlen. Zwischendurch zeigte Schlagzeuger Mike Terrana sein Können. Ein Wahnsinns-Schlagzeugsolo. Kurz vor Ende des Konzerts wurde es noch mal besinnlich. Ein ein kurzer Akustik-Teil zeigte die Vielseitigkeit von Tarja, die bei einem Song selbst am Keyboard saß, und der gesamten Band. Nach einem Zugabenteil, der von den Fans vehement gefordert wurde, endete das Konzert den viertel vor Elf. Ein phantastischer Abend.

Another short break for re-arrangements. A transparent curtain was hanging in front of the stage. Then the intro of the evening highlight came through the speakers (meist wird nur speakers gesagt statt loudspeakers). The fans went bananas when Tarja entered the stage. Her clear bright voice fascinated the fans. She mainly performed songs from her current album „What Lies Beneath“. But she also played songs of the album „My Winter Storm“. And a reminiscence of her times as member Nightwish couldn’t be miss out. In between Drummer Mike Terrana showed what he was capable of at the drums. A crazy drum solo. Towards the end of the concert it turned contemplative again. A short acoustic part showed the versatility Tarja and the Band. During one song Tarja played the keyboards herself. At quarter to eleven the concert ended with encored, which has vehemently been claimed for by the fans. An amazing evening.
