Manchmal sind es die kleinen Dingen im Leben – oder anders gesprochen, manchmal findet man gerade bei den kleineren Labels wahre Perlen der Rock-Musik. Diesmal das bereits im Juni 2010 Melodic Revolution Records erschienene Album 3D von DDrive. DDrive? Nie gehört! Gegründet wurde die Band bereits 2004 von den Gitarristen Don Mancuso (The Lou Gramm Band, Black Sheep, Cheater und Celtic Fire) und Phil Naro (Talas, Peter Criss & 24K). Nach den ersten Demo-Aufnahmen stieß Sänger Lou Gramm (The Lou Gramm Band, Foreigner,… Black Sheep) dazu. Schlagzeuger Bobby Bond und Tieftöner JT. Taylor vervollständigen das Lineup. 3D ist das dritte Studioalbum, der in Rochester (New York, USA) beheimateten Band. Hinzu kommen ein Sampler sowie eine EP mit neuen Songs, beide erschienen 2013.

Was erwartet den Hörer beim Abspielen diese Albums? Zeitlos schöner Classic-Rock in der Schnittmenge von (frühe) Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Aerosmith oder Bad Company. Schon der Opener “Next Train” zeigt, wo es langgeht. Druckvolles Gitarren-Spiel, rockiger Sound, herrliche Hooklines und ein überzeugendes Drumming. Vom ersten Ton an kann man hören, hier sind Profis am Werk. “Dig Down” startet mit bratenden Gitarren und geht dann in einen schnellen aber trotzdem melodischen Rocker über. Grandios! Aber auch für Ruhepole ist gesorgt, z.B. mit “Never Had A Chance” – einer Ballade zum Niederknien. Hier kommen offensichtlich auch akustische Gitarren zum Einsatz. “Last To Fall” oder “Always Done What I Want” erinnern an großen Stadion-Hymnen der 80er Jahre! Und ganz am Ende “Welcome To My World” ist für mich das Highlight dieses Albums.

Das Album 3D ist runde Sache. Hervorragendes Songwriting, eine moderne druckvolle Produktion, Klasse-Gitarrenarbeit. Die Gitarren singen, an manchen Stellen braten sie förmlich und haben auch ihre Solo-Auftritte. Und Bass und Schlagzeug geben den Rhythmus vor ohne zu dominieren. Die gesangliche Leistung ist über jeden Zweifel erhaben, rockig und leicht kratzig. Elf starke Rock-Songs bei denen es keinen einzigen Ausfall gibt.

Ich bin jetzt schon gespannt auf das nächste Studioalbum von DDrive. Aber bis es soweit ist wurde erst mal eine EP mit drei neuen Songs (“Intermission”) eingeschoben auf die ich ebenfalls äußerst gespannt bin.

Sometimes it’s the little things in life – or better said, sometimes you will find especially at smaller labels true gems of rock music. This time the Album of 3D of the band DDrive, which has already been published at Melodic Revolution Records in June 2010. DDrive? Never heard of it! The band was founded in 2004 by the guitarist Don Mancuso (The 3D cover artLou grams band, Black Sheep, Cheater, and Celtic Fire) and Phil Naro ( Talas, Peter Criss & 24K). After the first demo recordings singer Lou Gramm (The Lou Gramm band, Foreigner , … Black Sheep) joined them. Drummer Bobby Bond and woofer JT. Taylor complete the lineup. 3D is the third studio album, of the Rochester (New York, USA) based band. A sampler and an EP with new songs completes their list. They were both published in 2013.

What can the listener expect when playing this album? Timeless beautiful classic rock in the intersection of ( early) Bon Jovi, Foreigner , Aerosmith or Bad Company. The opener, „Next Train“ shows where it’s at. A powerful, pounding guitar play, rocking sound, superb, magnificent hooklines and a compelling drumming. From the first tone, you can hear there are professionals at work. „Dig Down“ starts with a slightly deep distorted guitars and then goes into a fast but still melodic rocker. Terrific! But there are also peaceful parts, for example „Never Had A Chance“ – a ballad to kneel down . It seems that acoustic guitars are used here too. „Last To Fall“ or „Always Done What I Want“ are reminiscent of great stadium anthems of the 80s! And at the very end „Welcome To My World“ is the highlight of this album for me.

The 3D album is a thoroughly piece of work. Brilliant songwriting, a modern powerful production, excellent guitar work. The guitars sing, sometimes they almost distort and also have their solo performances. And the bass and drums give the rhythm without dominating. The vocal performance is beyond any doubt, rock and slightly scratchy. Eleven strong rock songs with not a single failure.

I’m already looking forward to the next studio album from DDrive . But until then an EP with three new songs („Intermission“) has been squeezed in for the moment, which I await with excitement.
